The XAU/USD pair informs traders of the number of US dollars (the quote currency) required to purchase one ounce of gold (the base currency). The United States is the country with the most gold reserves in the world. Gold is a type of currency in the Forex market. The ISO 4217 currency standard uses the symbol XAU to denote one troy ounce of gold, which is an internationally accepted code. It's regarded as a "safe-haven" asset, with its value expected to rise during periods of economic volatility. Other factors that influence the XAU/USD pair include the USD and EUR, silver, the second most important precious metal commodity after gold, and Bund, a debt security issued by Germany's federal government, as well as T-Notes (Treasury Note, a marketable U.S. government debt security).
The ISO 4217 currency standard uses the symbol XAU to denote one troy ounce of gold, which is an internationally acknowledged code. It's seen as a "safe-haven" asset, with its value predicted to rise during periods of economic turbulence. Gold, unlike fiat currencies, is unaffected by changes in government policy.
A US dollar is made up of 100 cents. To distinguish it from other dollar-based currencies, it is designated with the symbol $ or US$. The United States dollar is the most widely used currency in the world and is regarded a benchmark currency.
